It must sense and adapt to energy need while balancing resour ces required to protect itself from insult. Peroxisome proliferator-activa ted receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α) is a transcriptional coact ivator that both coordinates metabolic adaptation to diverse stimuli and p rotects against inflammation. Using cell and animal models\, we are invest igating mechanistic links between this transcriptional regulator and metab olic diseases. Low levels of PGC-1α in liver are associated with hepatic s teatosis and insulin resistance\, hallmarks of fatty liver disease and the metabolic syndrome. We are investigating how the PGC-1α coactivator famil y controls the liver’s response to insulin\, while simultaneously coordina ting genes programs of mitochondrial metabolism and inflammation in hepato cytes. We hope that delineating the complex biology of PGC-1α in cells wil l help to better understand the consequences of disrupted PGC-1α activity in metabolic disease.\n DTSTART:20191113T163000Z DTEND:20191113T173000Z LOCATION:1/12\, Strathcona Anatomy and Dentistry Building\, CA\, QC\, Montr eal\, H3A 0C7\, 3640 rue University SUMMARY:Departmental Seminar: Jennifer Estall URL:/anatomy/channels/event/departmental-seminar-jenni fer-estall-300464 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
