 e spectrum of\nsexual desire\, ranging from deeply emotional declarations 
 of\neternal devotion to flippant arguments for promiscuity. In the\nAmores
 \, Ovid writes a series of elegies to Corinna\, his\nbeautiful and elusive
  mistress. The intimate and vulnerable nature\nof the poet revealed in the
 se early poems vanishes in the notorious\nArt of Love\, in which he provid
 es a knowing and witty\nguide to sexual conquest - a work whose alleged ob
 scenity led to\nOvid's banishment from Rome in AD 8. This volume also incl
 udes the\nCures for Love\, with instructions on how to terminate a\nlove a
 ffair\, and On Facial Treatment for Ladies\, an\nincomplete poem on the ar
 t of cosmetics.\n\nProfessor Maggie Kilgour received her PhD from Yale Uni
 versity. She\nis the recipient of the Principal’s Prize for Excellence in
 \nTeaching and several SSHRC grants. Her teaching and research areas\nincl
 ude Renaissance European literature\, classical literature\, the\ngothic n
 ovel\, and cannibalism. She is especially interested in the\nways in which
  classical authors were creatively rewritten at later\ntimes\, and is curr
