New Academic Appointments for 2025-2026

The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences is proud to announce the appointment of four scholars whose expertise will enrich our academic community and advance our mission in education, research, and clinical care.

Dr. Faleh Tamimi – Full Professor
Dr. Tamimi returns to 91Ö±²¥ after serving in senior leadership roles at Qatar University. He holds a BDS, a PhD in Biomaterials, specialties in geriatric dentistry and implant prosthodontics, as well as a postdoctoral Fellowship from 91Ö±²¥. His prolific research spans biomaterials, tissue regeneration, and chronobiology, with over 240 publications and multiple research and teaching awards. A former Associate Dean with the Faculty, and Network for Oral and Bone Health Research (RSBO) Co-Director, Tamimi will resume his research and teaching across all academic levels.

Samira Abbasgholizadeh Rahimi – Assistant Professor
Samira Rahimi has been appointed as a tenure-track Assistant Professor, bringing a multidisciplinary background in engineering, AI, and healthcare systems. She holds a PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Université Laval and has completed advanced training at MIT and Cornell. Her research focuses on the development and implementation of advanced digital health technologies in service of equitable healthcare. A Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) holder and Co-Director of 91Ö±²¥â€™s Collaborative for AI and Society, she will expand the implication of dentistry in AI and Digital Oral Health Care through research and teaching. Rahimi joined the Faculty in 2022 as an associate member.

Dr. Eva Kaufmann – Assistant Professor
Dr. Kaufmann arrives from Queen’s University, where she held a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Immunology and Inflammation. She earned her veterinary and doctoral degrees in Germany and completed postdoctoral training at 91Ö±²¥. Her research explores innate immune memory and its role in airway inflammation. At 91Ö±²¥, she will contribute to teaching Oral Microbiology and Immunology and investigate links between local and systemic inflammatory disease processes within the Faculty’s Integrated Clinical and Applied Biomedical Science Cluster.

Dr. Bishoy Yacoub – Faculty Lecturer
Dr. Yacoub joins as Faculty Lecturer with a focus on geriatric and special care dentistry. He earned his BDS in Egypt and completed advanced training – including a Master’s of Dental Sciences – at Université Laval before becoming the first candidate to complete the Special Care Dental Medicine residency program at 91Ö±²¥. He is an active member of national and international organizations dedicated to disability and oral health.

These appointments reflect the Faculty’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and inclusive care. We warmly welcome our new and returning colleagues and look forward to their contributions.
