Machine learning (ML) is the science of developing intelligent computers that can 'learn' through experience. ML crucially improved our understanding of big data in the past decade and led to many essential technologies in our daily lives, such as speech recognition, recommender systems, and personal assistants. In this workshop, you will learn about principles of machine learning and gain practice in implementing them for the real-world problems. We will start the workshop by implementing a fundamental machine learning algorithm known as multi-layer perceptrons to gain intuition about how machines learn. Then, we will cover optimization and regularization techniques to learn the underlying principles of machine learning and discuss how we can make algorithms more intelligent.
Prerequisite(s)-听Familiarity with Python (i.e., used Python and wrote couple scripts before)
-听Basic understanding of calculus and linear algebra (i.e., knowing what a matrix and derivative is)
- Study the pre-workshop exercise (Intro to Google Colab & Pytorch, estimated time: ~35 - 60 mins)
System/Installation Requirements:听We will do the workshop exercises on Google Colab. Colab is a Jupyter Notebook-like environment running on your web browser developed by the Google Research team. So, the only requirement for the workshop is having a Gmail account and being signed in to your Gmail account on your preferred web browser.听

All other attendees such as undergraduate students, interns and/or graduate students from other institutions are required to purchase a ticket to cover organizational and staffing costs.
