 ate the long-run impacts of gifted education for high-ability students fro
 m disadvantaged backgrounds. Our analysis relies on a regression discontin
 uity approach based on IQ thresholds that are used to determine gifted sta
 tus. We find that gifted status increases the likelihood of on-time gradua
 tion and enrollment in college for students at the IQ threshold. This impr
 ovement is driven by effects for boys. An analysis of intermediate outcome
 s of boys suggests that increased engagement and proficiency in math cours
 ework are important mediators.\n
