Biography:

Dr. Silvana Matassini is a Peruvian medical anthropologist and public health scholar whose work bridges research, teaching, and community-based engagement in Latin America. She holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Hull, as well as master鈥檚 degrees in Medical Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh and Social Gerontology from the University of Southampton. Her research examines women鈥檚 health through a critical medical anthropology lens, interrogating how healthcare inequalities, power relations, and practices of care shape embodied experiences of health and illness. She has led qualitative and mixed-methods studies on topics such as cancer prevention, maternal health, endometriosis, elder care, and the collateral effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in vulnerable populations. Dr. Matassini has been Principal Investigator on numerous national and international projects funded by institutions including the World Bank, PAHO/WHO, and CONCYTEC (Peru鈥檚 national science council). Before joining 91直播, she served as a professor at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, as a senior researcher at the Peruvian National Institute of Health, and as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Southern California (USC). She has also completed academic internships at the University of Oxford (UK) and North-West University (South Africa). She remains committed to fostering inclusive, decolonial, and feminist approaches to global public health education.
