 den Violin Award was established in 2006 through a generous gift from Cana
 dian philanthropist Seymour Schulich. The $25\,000 First Prize is awarded 
 by a special committee of internal and external jurors at the Schulich Sch
 ool of Music to an undergraduate\, graduate or diploma student in the Schu
 lich School of Music who demonstrates exceptional potential in the String 
 Area. For the 15th edition\, the First Prize was increased to $30\,000. Th
 e 16th edition saw additional generous scholarship offerings by the Schuli
 ch Foundation. The finalists who place second and third will each receive 
 $15\,000 and $5\,000 respectively\, in commendation of their performance a
 nd participation in the Schulich School of Music community. \n\nThe Golden
  Violin\, made of pewter and gold plate\, remains on permanent display in 
 91Ö±²¥â€™s Marvin Duchow Music Library. Its recipient\, chosen by jury and a
  rigourous selection process\, receives a generous scholarship\, valued th
 is year at $30\,000 as well as a smaller likeness of the violin in the for
