In my talk\, I will first s ummarize our findings on the following areas: the reasons underlying the l ack of spontaneous axon regrowth after CNS injuries\, the molecular pathwa ys for promoting adult CNS axon regeneration\, and the strategies for enab ling functions of regenerated axons in different experimental injury model s. I will then discuss our approaches and perspectives on translating expe rimental findings into clinical treatments for functional restoration afte r CNS injuries.\n\nBio: Zhigang He is Professor of Neurology and Ophthalmo logy in Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He received his PhD from the University of Toronto and completed his postdoctoral res earch at the University of California\, San Francisco. His group studies a xon regeneration\, neural modulation and related sensorimotor circuit mech anisms\, with the goal of developing novel CNS neural repair strategies. H e was a recipient of the Reeve-Irvine Research Medal in 2019 and a Visiona ry Award of the Greenberg END Blindness in 2020. He has the honor of being named as a Klingenstein Fellow in Neuroscience\, a John Merck Scholar\, a McKnight Scholar and the EJLB fellow. He is a member of the National Acad emy of Medicine of US.\n\n\nThis annual lecture honours Dr. Albert Aguayo\ , OC\, FRCP\, Professor Emeritus founder and former Director of the Centre for the Research in Neuroscience at 91Ö±˛Ą. He is a former Pre sident of the Society for Neurosciences and the Canadian Association of Ne uroscience. Dr. Aguayo also held the positions of Secretary General and Pr esident of the International Brain Research Organization ( IBRO) and been a member of many international advisory committees and editorial boards. H e holds honorary degrees from the Universities of Lund (Sweden)\, Cordoba ( Argentina) and Queen’s and Dalhousie in Canada. Albert Aguayo’s scientif ic contributions concerned the regenerative capacity of the adult mammalia n central nervous system\n DTSTART:20231128T210000Z DTEND:20231128T220000Z LOCATION:De Grandpre Communications Centre\, Montreal Neurological Institut e\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 2B4\, 3801 rue University SUMMARY:Albert Aguayo Lecture: Axon Regeneration and Functional Restoration after CNS Injuries URL:/neuro/channels/event/albert-aguayo-lecture-axon-r egeneration-and-functional-restoration-after-cns-injuries-339936 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
