*Note: Graduates who have already participated in a Quebec residency program, but only if 12 months have passed between the end of training in the previous program and admission to the new program on July 1st of the match year. Residents currently in training in Quebec are not eligible to apply to particular stream programs within the second iteration of the R-1 match. Residents who are interested in transferring programs should communicate with their postgraduate office to discuss this request.

Training Duration

The 91Ö±²¥ Postgraduate Medical Education OfficeÌýdoes not offer positions for trainees to complete a single preliminary year of training.Ìý Preliminary training is considered to be part of the core training for the specialty programs offered at 91Ö±²¥.

Extensions of training are not automatic and can be obtained for valid pedagogical reasons only, pending renewal of eligibility. Please contact your Program Director 12 months in advance.

French Language Requirement

In Québec,ÌýphysiciansÌýareÌýlegallyÌýrequiredÌýtoÌýprovideÌýcare inÌýbothÌýFrench and English. To supportÌýthisÌýobligation,Ìý91Ö±²¥â€™sÌýPostgraduate Medical Education (PGME)ÌýprovidesÌýresidentsÌýwithÌýaccessÌýto FrenchÌýlanguageÌýacquisitionÌýtoolsÌýandÌýresources.ÌýTheseÌýareÌýdesignedÌýto help residentsÌýcommunicateÌýeffectivelyÌýwithÌýFrancophone patients andÌýfullyÌýbenefitÌýfromÌýtheirÌýclinical and academic training.ÌýAll residents areÌýexpectedÌýtoÌýparticipateÌýin the FrenchÌýlanguageÌýcoursesÌýofferedÌýby the PGME Office,ÌýthroughoutÌýthe duration ofÌýtheirÌýtraining at 91Ö±²¥,ÌýincludingÌýduringÌýthe Pre-EntryÌýAssessmentÌýPeriodÌý(PEAP),ÌýwhereÌýapplicable.Ìý
