Allison\, Baylor College of Medicine\n Tuesday September 30\, 12-1pm\n Zoom Link: https://mcgill.zoom.us/j/87078928687\n In Person: 550 Sherbrooke\, R oom 189\n \n Abstract: Throughout its history\, science has inspired trust i n some\, and skepticism in others. We must ask when we hear that we wish t he general community to trust science\, does that mean trust the process o f science\, particular persons or entities acting in the scientific commun ity\, particular studies or particular conclusions? In each case\, the ans wers may be different. In the case of trusting actors and studies\, a prer equisite to legitimate trust is trustworthiness. Trustworthiness exists in degrees\, it is not a simple yes or no\, and it exists to the extent that the methods used in the process justify it. These methods include\, but a re not limited to\, methods involving the design\, analysis\, and interpre tation of studies\, especially involving statistical issues. In this talk\ , I will highlight common mistakes made at each level that can reduce trus tworthiness and offer suggestions for how to create trustworthiness by fol lowing the motto\, “Prevent\, Detect\, Admit\, Correct.”\n DTSTART:20250930T160000Z DTEND:20250930T170000Z SUMMARY:QLS Seminar Series - David B.
