Exploring Montreal's Marine Fossils: A Special Workshop for Science Literacy Week

Join us for Science Literacy Week!

As a part of Science and Literacy Week at 91直播 come and meet us at the Redpath Museum for a bilingual family-friendly event on Mont-Royal exploring Montreal鈥檚 marine fossils.听听Prior to arriving at the park there will be a workshop in the geology laboratory located at Earth and Planetary Sciences to familiarize people about the area almost a half a billion years ago!

Begin with a听short 10 minute presentation about Montreal as a tropical ocean by Professor Jeanne Paquette of Earth and Planetary Sciences, followed by a 15 minute hands-on workshop introducing you to fossils commonly found. It is then about a 15 minute walk from 91直播 to the Mont Royal site, where we will explore the local marine fossils听until 14h00. The Google map location is .

There will be a 15 minute break on campus prior to leaving for Mont Royal Park for a snack/washroom break.

For families with children aged between 7 and 12 years old.

COST: $10.00 (+taxes) per adult ; $5.00 (+taxes) per听child / a听maximum of $25.00 (+taxes) per family.

Please arrive at 10h30 to register and pay at the museum front desk.听At 11h00, paleontology technician Chantal Montreuil from the Redpath Museum will lead the group over to the Geology lab in the Frank Dawson Adams building for the presentation.

Please note the museum will be hosting a conference and will be closed to the public, cafes on campus are also closed, there are washrooms available on campus only.听 As a reminder this activity is weather permitting.

We recommend comfortable clothes and good walking shoes, sport type (squirt) water bottles to bring out details in stone and听magnifying lenses.听Bring your own snacks and refreshments

Accessibility

Please note that the Redpath Museum is not accessible to individuals using wheelchairs. There are no access ramps or elevators, and access to the upper floors is only possible via a central staircase. The exterior entrance, interior spaces, exhibition rooms, and restrooms are not adapted to meet universal accessibility standards. Additionally, the building is not air-conditioned.
