Andy Stuhl

Andy Kelleher Stuhl is a PhD student in Communication Studies focused on creative infrastructures and the politics of mediated sonicĀ exchange. His work aims to identify case studies in musical creativity and auditory experience as models for new paths in such domains asĀ media studies, digital humanities, and the critique of technology. He holds a master’s degree in Comparative Media Studies from theĀ Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BA in Science, Technology, and Society from Stanford University. Past projects haveĀ investigated the phenomenon of analog fetishism from the perspective of sound engineer communities and, more recently, the process andĀ aspirations behind interactive musical works. His ongoing research centers on historical relationships among sonic expression,Ā technologies of distribution, the cultural status of software, and the ambiguous modes of medium-specific creative work encompassed byĀ ā€œmusical programming.ā€Ā
