2005- Expanding Opportunities for Students

students listening and clappingIn 2005, Dr. Van-Thanh-Van Nguyen took over as Director of the Brace Centre (2005-year), following Dr. Chandra Madramootoo’s tenure. During this period, the Centre saw significant academic expansion, including the development of a non-thesis MSc program in Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM). Initiated under previous leadership and formally launched in 2009 with support from the Macdonald Stewart Foundation, the program provided students with hands-on training to address real-world water challenges. During Jan Adamowski’s interim leadership (2017-2019), the Centre secured a Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) grant.Ìý

The Centre also became a hub for student engagement beyond the classroom. Conferences, seminar series, and networking events fostered connections between researchers, practitioners, and students. Under Dr. Jinxia Liu’s leadership (2019 – 2024), the Centre continued to strengthen its role in water research, organizing key events and expanding opportunities for student participation. During this time, the Brace Graduate Conference, organized by Dr. Caroline Begg, provided a platform for graduate students to present their research and exchange ideas with peers and experts. In 2022, the Centre was again renamed to the Brace Water Centre to better include all areas of specialization within the water field at 91Ö±²¥.Ìý
