As a reminder, all Doctoral students are required to apply for at least one federal and one provincial award each year they are eligible. Master’s students are also strongly encouraged to apply for all external awards for which they are eligible.

Fonds de Recherche du Québec-Santé (FRQ-S)

The Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQNT/FRQSC/FRQS) has launched its Fall 2025 fellowship competition. All students admitted for Fall 2025 are eligible to apply, as per the . If you are a Master or Doctoral student who has applied for this award, please fill out this .

French abstract translation review service for all doctoral applicants:
• As per FRQ competition guidelines, the project title and abstract must be provided in French, while supporting documents (including project proposal) may be submitted in English.
• The lay abstract should be written in a language that can be understood by the public. It can be prepared well in advance of the project proposal.
• GPS will provide a translation review service to all doctoral applicants. To benefit from this service, the English title and abstract with a preliminary French draft must be received by the dates indicated in the submission instructions.
• GPS has compiled a list of recommendations for students writing their abstract in English. It is important to start the process early to leave sufficient time for translation review.

Recommendations for FRQ-secteurs NT & S doctoral applicants:
• Based on past experience, the strongest applicants have a good publication record and previous awards to demonstrate academic achievement
• If you have just entered your doctoral program and have not yet published or submitted any articles, it may be advisable to focus on strengthening your CV to improve your chances for next year’s competition

OVERVIEW The Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ- secteurs NT/SC/S) has launched its Fall 2025 fellowship competition. FRQ is one of the few domestic sources available for all international students. As a reminder, all Doctoral students are required to apply for at least one federal and one provincial award each year they are eligible. All eligible doctoral students should therefore apply for FRQ.

Canada Graduate Research Scholarships - Doctoral (CGRS-D)

OVERVIEW

Canada's three federal granting agencies have been working together to further harmonize and launch the Canada Graduate Research Scholarships - Doctoral (CGRS D) Programs. These replace the CGSD and still include a common webpage, harmonized application timeline, and program descriptions.
​Major Changes:

  • Applicants of any citizenship are now eligible to apply, but non-Canadians not holding "protected persons status", must be registered in their doctoral program for Fall 2025.

  • Eligibility window extended. Number of months in programis now up to 36 months for ALL applicants.

VALUE $40,000/year,awarded for a duration of up to three years.
DURATION 36 months
