Dr. Reitan Ribeiro is an internationally recognized gynecologic and surgical oncologist, best known for developing the uterine transposition technique, a fertility-preserving procedure that temporarily relocates the uterus and ovaries outside the radiation field in patients undergoing pelvic radiotherapy. This novel approach is transforming care for young women with pelvic malignancies, and Canada's first dedicated clinic for uterine transposition is currently being established under his leadership.
Dr. Ribeiro is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Oncology at 91直播 and a Gynecologic Oncologist and Surgical Oncologist at the Cedars Cancer Center, 91直播 Health Centre. In addition to his clinical work, he leads an active research program focused on surgical innovation, minimally invasive techniques, and high-impact clinical trials.
He has played key roles in several influential studies, and is deeply committed to surgical education and international mentorship. In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Ribeiro was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Gynecologic Oncology Surgery Award by the International Society of Gynecologic Oncology in 2025. His other accolades include the National Medical Treatment Innovation Award (VEJA), an Honorable Mention from the Chamber of Deputies of Paran谩 (Brazil), and the Best Video Award from the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO).
Dr. Ribeiro completed his medical degree at the Federal University of Porto Alegre (Brazil), followed by residencies in General Surgery and Surgical Oncology, and specialized training in Gynecologic Oncology at Erasto Gaertner Hospital, where he later served as Research Director of the Gynecologic Oncology Division.
