What tools are approved for use?

Free/public AI translation tools are prohibited for 91直播 content.

The University acknowledges that AI tools can be good at translating some of the simple straightforward text we encounter on a day-to-day basis (procedures, basic emails, factual information, etc.).

IT Services has approved two AI tools for translation at 91直播:

  • DeepL Pro (paid version)

The free version is explicitly prohibited, for data security reasons.

  • Microsoft Copilot (enterprise version)

You must follow  to securely use Copilot. As with DeepL, the free public version of Copilot is prohibited for data security reasons.

You should never input any private or sensitive information (e.g. Personally Identifiable Information, Personal Health Information, Payment Card Industry data, or other confidential information) into these tools.

These tools can help dramatically increase translation speed, but can鈥檛 replace humans who understand context, tone, idioms, specialized terminology, etc. Review of AI-translated text by someone fluent in French (and a subject-matter expert, for technical text) remains essential.

All AI-translated text must be reviewed by someone fluent in French. No exceptions.

When in doubt, ask for help! The Linguistic Services team is happy to assist you.
